The San Juan Water Conservancy District follows statutory mandates for its budgeting process every year. The budget is based on a one mill tax levy passed by the taxpayers at the time the District was formed in 1987, as adjusted per state statute from time to time.
SJWCD’s Treasurer presents a proposed budget in October, a public hearing on the budget is held in November, and once the mill levy is set by the Archuleta County Treasurer, the District adopts its budget for the coming year in December on a vote of the board of directors.
